Former Sharks captain and South African Rugby Legend Wayne Fyvie, together with Cell C Sharks players Ox Nche, Thomas Du Toit and Marius Louw have voiced their support for the inaugural Mr Price Foundation Challenge taking place on December 5 and 6. Taking to the field at King’s Park Stadium earlier this week, they showed off their physiques and fitness levels, urging the public to take on the Challenge with purpose.
The fundraising event in partnership with Comrades Marathon is hosted to raise awareness and funds for the Mr Price Foundation’s education and skills development programmes. For the past decade, the event known as the Ride for Mr Price Foundation has been a 606km cycle ride with purpose, from Secunda to Durban over two days, to help break the cycle of poverty and inequality in South Africa. Known as South Africa’s toughest cycle ride, the endurance event was limited to seasoned cyclists and athletes.
However, due to the impact and restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has evolved into a virtual ride, run or walk, opening up a world of possibilities for everyone who would like to contribute to a worthy cause.
Fyvie, who participated in four previous Rides said, “It’s awesome to be a part of something where two local brands, Mr Price Foundation and SPAR, as well as the Sharks, have come together to make a difference in a young child’s life, which is extremely special. My purpose in life is to add value to people and that is why I am involved in this type of initiative. If you can change one person’s life, you have made an impact.”
“The work the Foundation does is amazing, and all to make our country better. It’s awesome to see that it is not all about profit. The Foundation is ploughing back in and adding value to people’s lives, which is great. Get out there and get involved,” added Fyvie.
