The Mr Price Foundation Challenge, in association with the Comrades Marathon, is a fundraising event that encourages participants from around the globe to cycle or run to raise funds for the Mr Price Foundation. The Mr Price Foundation breaks the cycle of poverty and inequality in South Africa through education and skills development.
Anyone can participate! You can live anywhere in the world and all ages can participate. Gather a group of friends or club members and plan your route!

3km / 7km / 21km
Participants can run and cycle. The only case where this will not be allowed is if you are particpating in the 606km cycle ride.
The Mr Price Foundation Challenge starts on Saturday, 5 December 2020 at 00:01am and finishes on Sunday, 6 December at 23:59pm. There is no specific time limit per event, your time must be logged by 23.59pm on the 6th of December.
You can change your distance after the event but BEFORE you submit your results on the system. You will then receive a medal for the distance you have selected after the event.
Anywhere! Head to your favourite outdoor route or go all out on your indoor trainer or treadmill.
Any type of bicycle is allowed.
The contribution fee for South Africans is R199 per person.
The contribution fee for all international participants is R399 per person.
You will receive a race number, a Mr Price Foundation Challenge medal (both physical and digital), a participation certificate, and be eligible to for giveaways
You will be emailed a race number upon completion of your entry. It is vital to have access to and remember your email address.
Before race day detailed, step-by-step instructions will be emailed to all entrants. This will include how to submit your time on race day.
Your race session must be run within 24h leading up to the race date to 24h after – in your time zone. If you want to upgrade or downgrade to a shorter or longer distance, you can do this through your profile on this link by editing your runner details.
How do I register my time?
There are 4 options for you to register your time on race day:
- Direct platform integration to Strava, Endomondo, Polar, Garmin and Suunto.
- RaceConnect real-time virtual tracking app – the download is free and easy-to-use
- Activity file upload in GPX, TCX or FIT format for any other platform.
- Manual time entry with photo proof or URL-refererence.
Login to your profile on race day and upload your race session by going to “MY TIME” to upload your race session when ready.

The real-time virtual tracking app RaceConnect is directly integrated with the event. Simply download the app, login and start your race session on race day – and run. RaceConnect (iPhone and Android) can be downloaded App Store here and Google Play here.
When logging in, please use your personal Tracker ID.
The results will be presented on this link (live from Dec 4) and will be available live as you and your fellow runners are uploading your virtual race sessions. We also have a special smartphone app ready for you; AthleteTRACKER. The app is available for iPhone in the App Store and Andriod on Google Play. Please note, this is a registration and results app – not an activity tracking app.
***UPDATE – Medals and event shirt will be ready for collection by the middle of February. Once the items have been delivered to your designated Mr Price Sport store, we will email you simple collection instructions.
When you have uploaded your race session on race day your result will be analysed and processed. Within 60 minutes, you will receive your virtual medal on email that you can share on your social media page along with your personalized digital certificate.
The Mr Price Foundation Challenge medal will be distributed after the event and collected from the location selected on the entry system. International participants medals will be posted via mail service to the address given after the event. Please allow 6-8 weeks given the time of the year.
Funds raised from the Mr Price Foundation Challenge will go towards the Mr Price Foundation. The Foundation’s vision is to empower young South Africans to break the cycle of poverty and inequality. The Mr Price Foundation aims to do this through sustainable skills development and education.
The contribution fee goes towards covering the costs of the event with a portion of the contribution fee allocated to the Mr Price Foundation. If you want a Section 18A Certificate, you will need to donate an additional amount over the contribution fee.
